Beyond the cobblestone streets of Malifaux proper, a development of new construction has begun to grow out from the populated districts of Malifaux itself. Those companies seeking opportunities in Malifaux but failing to secure offices in the City itself have been forced to provide for themselves. A few of these firms have the resources and skillsets required to build their own facilities. The Malifaux district referred to as New Construction stands in stark contrast to the towering brick buildings of Malifaux and resembles the frontier towns ubiquitous in the West.

The large portion of buildings in this district are built from the poor quality lumber harvested from the native Knotwood tree that grows just as well in the highlands as it does in the marsh that borders Malifaux. Although a difficult building material to work with, the New Construction district has never-the-less exploded in size. This district is responsible for the image many people have of Malifaux as the dusty, tumbleweed-strewn frontier town with dirt roads and hitching posts.

A consequence of this sudden expansion has been the establishment of a lumber industry in Malifaux that has facilitated the construction of entirely new settlements in this world, including the populous Hollow Marsh to the north and the more distant pioneer town of Promise. With these local facilities, the necessity to ship in building materials has been eliminated and has reduced the local dependence on the Guild controlled railroad for resources.
