Founded in 112, the town of Promise serves as the last civilized stop for Pioneers, explorers, and fugitives heading heading northeast. Two weeks hard ride from Ridley Station, Promise boasts a bustling economy and hosts its own blacksmith, tailor, grocer, dry goods purveyor, haberdasher, and so forth. Stocked by regular shipments of goods by rail from the City, Earthside products are often found on the shelves of Promise’s stores.
Promise’s prosperity comes not only from the steady flow of scrip from passers through leaving their savings with the town as they strike out for points beyond but also from numerous prospecting concerns in the hills north of town. The claim’s owners leaving most of their excavated wealth in the pockets of the town’s shopkeepers.
Despite this booming economy, or perhaps because of it, Promise is not free of dangers. Raids by outlaw bands, Neverborn, even an ambitious Resurrectionist and his shambling crew, as well as the problems typical for a border town, have prompted the town’s leadership to arm and retain a peacekeeping force. Promise’s sheriff and deputies keep the peace within and defend the town from threats without with an iron hand; a warning anyone wishing to cause Promise harm should take to heart.
