Contractors

Although the Guild contracts with a variety of skilled professionals for work in Malifaux, most residents use the term “contractor” in reference to individuals who have indentured themselves and their particular skills to the Guild for the cost of passage to Malifaux or who have had their debts bought by the Guild and must work off the debt before being permitted to return Earthside.

The Guild claims it is possible for volunteer contractors to pay their debt off within one year, but most have found this impossible, and the first volunteer contractors needed nearly three to fully free themselves of the Guild’s chains. Debt contractors do not have it so lucky. Their time in Malifaux is based on the size of the debt assumed by the Guild, and they are required to work in harsher conditions, typically in one of the Guild’s many mines, where the labour is brutal and the pay poor. Unfortunately for many, these harsh conditions claim them before they can earn their freedom.
